Idina Menzel and Ex-Husband Taye Diggs Celebrate Milestone as Son Walker Turns 14

Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs are proving that co-parenting can be harmonious as they celebrate a special milestone: their son Walker’s 14th birthday.
The Frozen star, 53, and Diggs, 52, took to Instagram on Monday, January 22, to share heartwarming tributes for their teenager, offering a glimpse into their co-parenting dynamic nearly a decade after their split. "Happy birthday to my sweet boy, Walker! You’re the light of my life, and I’m so proud of the young man you’re becoming," Menzel wrote, posting a rare photo of Walker and her alongside balloons and cake.
Diggs shared his own post, captioning a playful video of him and Walker, “Can’t believe my little man is already 14! Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it.”
The former Broadway power couple, who met in the mid-1990s while starring in the original Rent production, were married for ten years before announcing their separation in 2013. Despite parting ways, they’ve made a conscious effort to prioritize their son’s well-being, maintaining an amicable relationship.
“Walker is the best of us,” Diggs said in a 2022 interview. “Idina and I have worked really hard to make sure he feels loved and supported, and I think we’ve done a pretty good job.”
Since their divorce, Menzel and Diggs have each moved on romantically—Menzel is married to actor Aaron Lohr, while Diggs has been dating actress Apryl Jones. Still, they’ve maintained mutual respect for one another, often cheering each other on publicly and co-parenting seamlessly.
Menzel, whose career soared with roles in Wicked and Disney’s Frozen, has often spoken about balancing her demanding schedule with motherhood. Diggs, known for his roles in How Stella Got Her Groove Back and All American, has similarly praised the importance of creating a stable environment for Walker.
As Walker grows up, it’s clear that both parents remain committed to being present and supportive in his life. Their latest birthday tributes are another reminder that, for Menzel and Diggs, family remains the priority—no matter what.
