In Case You Missed It: Chloe Fineman Reveals Tense SNL Hosting Experience with Elon Musk

Saturday Night Live star Chloe Fineman recently opened up about a difficult experience with former host Elon Musk. In a now-deleted TikTok video posted on Monday, November 11, Fineman, 36, claimed that Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, brought her to tears when he hosted the iconic NBC sketch show in May 2021.

“OK, I just saw some news article about Elon Musk being butthurt about SNL and his impression,” Fineman began in the video, referencing Musk’s reaction to Dana Carvey’s recent impersonation of him on the November 9 episode of SNL. Musk had responded critically to the impression, sharing via X (formerly Twitter) that “SNL has been dying slowly for years, as they become increasingly out of touch with reality.”

Fineman then revealed a long-kept secret, saying, “I’m gonna come out and say, at long last, that I’m the cast member that he made cry and he’s the host that made someone cry.”

Chloe Fineman joined SNL in 2019 and quickly became known for her versatile impressions and comedic timing, skillfully impersonating celebrities like Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon, and Timothée Chalamet. With her sharp wit and an impressive range of characters, Fineman has become a standout in SNL's ensemble cast, especially as the show has aimed to connect with younger audiences. Her ability to take on challenging roles has made her a fan favorite, and she’s gained a significant following on social media, where she often shares comedic skits and behind-the-scenes glimpses of life on SNL.

The episode hosted by Musk in 2021 was one of SNL’s most talked-about, as Musk’s controversial reputation and unconventional hosting style drew mixed reactions from fans and cast members alike. Fineman’s revelation offers a glimpse into the challenges some cast members may have faced during Musk’s time on set, underscoring the complexities of working with high-profile hosts from outside the comedy world.

While Fineman’s TikTok video was soon deleted, it added to ongoing conversations about SNL’s guest hosts and the impact they can have on the cast. For Fineman, who continues to shine on the show, this moment of vulnerability highlights the realities behind the scenes, where cast members juggle both comedic and professional demands in the fast-paced world of live television.
