Tom Cruise is back in action as Ethan Hunt, sprinting onto the big screen in the highly anticipated Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. The first trailer for the eighth film in the blockbuster franchise dropped recently, giving fans a glimpse of Cruise’s iconic IMF agent as he dives back into the conflict with the powerful AI known as “the Entity,” which began in 2022’s Dead Reckoning Part One.

Sharing the trailer on Instagram, Cruise, now 62, wrote, “Our lives are the sum of our choices. Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. See you at the movies May 23, 2025.” The post sent fans into a frenzy, with many eagerly marking their calendars for the movie’s release.

Returning to join Cruise in this new installment are franchise veterans Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, Pom Klementieff, and Henry Czerny. Their last appearance in Dead Reckoning Part One earned the franchise its first-ever Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound and grossed $172 million domestically.

The next film also brings in a roster of exciting new faces, including Nick Offerman, Bob Odenkirk, Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddingham, and Katy O'Brian. Director Christopher McQuarrie returns to helm the action after directing previous installments Rogue Nation, Fallout, and Dead Reckoning Part One.

Filming for The Final Reckoning kicked off in early 2022 across the U.K., Malta, South Africa, and Norway, though production experienced delays due to the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes, resuming in March 2024. Originally titled Dead Reckoning Part Two, the film adopted its new title in October 2023, marking it as the epic finale to Ethan Hunt’s adventures.

With a mix of returning favorites, thrilling new cast members, and Cruise’s commitment to jaw-dropping stunts, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is poised to be an unforgettable action spectacle when it hits theaters on May 23, 2025.
